Marvell rolled out a set of semiconductors
Marvell Technology Group Ltd. is a leading company that secures and processes the world’s data with semiconductor solutions designed for consumers’ present needs and future ambitions. The company recently rolled out a set of semiconductors intending to introduce a new wave of 5G networking gear created to let telecommunications carriers mix and match equipment more efficiently.
Earlier, mobile network equipment from makers including Huawei Technologies Co Ltd., Nokia, and Ericsson was mostly proprietary, produced by custom chips and software that are difficult to intermix.
Networking gear
Restrictions by the US government have crippled Huawei’s ability to source chips. Thus, it hustled the acceptance of so-called open radio-access network technology, where any vendor could assemble industry-standard chips, software to create inter-operable 5G networking gear.
Both the US-based DISH Network Corp. and Japan’s Rakuten are introducing networks based on such gear. Also, chip producers such as Intel Corp. and Qualcomm Inc. have announced chips for the segment, although Qualcomm’s offerings remain years away.
Marvell, the supplier of chips
Marvell, for its part, has been a supplier of chips for conventional networking gear makers, including Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. and Nokia.
Marvell recently released the series of chips designed for the newer style of open networks. Raj Singh, Executive Vice President Processors Business Group at Marvell Semiconductor, said those players are beginning to use the latest technology.
Singh added: “We’re getting support from our existing customers, as well as the new upstarts.”
John Schimpf, Senior Director, Product Marketing, Wireless at Marvell Technology, commented: “Even though Marvell is a chip company, it has also developed software and even metalwork designs to provide a blueprint to make functional networking gear.” Further, he added, “The goal was to give potential new entrants to the market a starting point that is viable.”
Matt Murphy, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Marvell Semiconductor, commented: “We’re driven by the belief that how we do things matters just as much as what we do – that execution is as essential as innovation, and that’s the experience I want our customers to have in working with Marvell.”
